And then I Pr’d. Dogwood 5K

I hate that it has taken me this long to write about last Sunday’s race. If you follow me on Instagram (jessgomez), you probably noticed that I, along with my brother had a really good race. 🙂 We left my parent’s house around 6:15 a.m because the race started at 8 a.m. I had my usual prerace breakfast that consisted of ezekiel toast topped with pb and a banana, along with some much needed coffee.:) My bro, on the other hand, had a cliff bar and some coffee. When we arrived at the race, it was a lot cooler than I had expected it to be. The half marathon started at 8, and the 5K started 10 minutes after that. It was a small race, which was nice. The race had a couple of hills that actually weren’t too terrible since I’ve been running hills lately. I was really surprised to see at the turn around that I had run the first half in 13:45!! Say what?? I was so excited to see that because my watch was telling me that I had been steadily hitting and 8:30 min/mile pace which I rarely do. When I saw that time on my watch, I freaked out a bit because I was scared that I had started wayy too fast, and I really didn’t want to burn out at the end. Instead of slowing down though, I just listened to my body, because that pace felt really good. The last 1K of the race is where I had the most trouble. There was one last hill, and I was running against the wind. I stopped to walk for a few seconds to catch my breath, then gave it my all until the end. The most exciting thing was a lady telling me that I was second female overall!! Umm excuse me, what?! I finished in 27:40 which I was proud of since I beat my last 5K race PR by 2 minutes!!!:) I won 1st place in my age which is the nice thing about a small race.;)

After the race, we went to get brunch at First Watch! I got the fruit crepes that were amazingly delish! 🙂 My brother decided that he needed to order TWO plates of food! He got french toast and some other plate that came with eggs, potatoes, and an english muffin. He has such a crazy metabolism. He finished it all except the potatoes.

Adrian's 2 plates of food. Demolished.

The Dogwood 5K was the perfect start to my spring break! 🙂 It really showed me that by working hard, and pushing myself, I can really do well in a race.

I seriously cannot wait for the half marathon in April now.:)

Do you like small races or large races?
I like small 5Ks, but I really enjoy larger 1/2 marathons:)

Are you a fan of brunch?
I LOVE brunch! I know it’s such a weird time, but it’s definitely my favorite. 🙂
